Fall is just around the corner and while some people can't wait for everything pumpkin spice, we are on team apple! From apple picking and making applesauce, to apple crisp and warm apple pies, we are here for it.
5 lbs Gala apples
1 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cinnamon stick
**You'll need a large slow cooker. We love our Ninja crock pot!
Step ONE:
Peel, core and slice your apples. In a food processor, grate apples (in batches, if needed), then place in slow cooker. Stir in brown sugar, salt and don't forget your cinnamon stick.
Step TWO:
Cover; cook on the high setting for 4 hours.
Step THREE:
Remove and set aside your cinnamon stick. In the food processor, puree apple mixture (in batches, if needed) until smooth. Return to slow cooker and add your cinnamon stick once again.
Step Four:
Cook uncovered on high setting 4 more hours, stirring occasionally. At this point, your house will smell amazing!
Step FIVE:
Remove and discard cinnamon stick. Cool completely before transferring your apple butter to jars and seal them tightly. You can store them in the refrigerator up to 3 weeks.
Step SIX:
Gifting or looking for a way to make your jars look pretty? Over the years, we've loved giving these are gifts for teachers and friends. Use some twine and a cinnamon stick for a fun, festive look, or add a custom mini spoon or spreader to complete the occasion!
